Hey everyone! We are now this 🤏 close to the launch. A lot of you have been following us for a very LONG time and I know the wait has been hard. We have spent almost entire of the last year overhauling the Comet you know and love.

Mainboard

When we announced the updated Comet in March 2025 (link), we started the mainboard design again from scratch, since then we have finished manufacturing two iterations of the PCB - Engineering Validation Test (EVT) and Design Validation Test (DVT).

The EVT boards underwent rigorous testing for 4 months before we released the design for DVT, this covered functionality, power delivery, power consumption, thermals and mechanical validation. We even got our certification testing done . Those 10 brave units are so battered right now, I don't think we can show them to you 😵‍💫.

Here are the photos of the DVT, they just got ready a couple of weeks back.

Current Status

Here is a quick summary of all the other parts that have been tested as part of the EVT and DVT. We will upload demos on the campaign page!

🔥 - broken, 🚫 - not available, ⏳ - pending, ☑️ - partial ✅ - functional

Keep an eye out for more demos on the campaign launch!

Power Consumption

Ensuring the Comet gives a great battery life in day-to-day use has been critical in all our testing efforts over the past 5 months. Here are some of our tested power consumption results .

Below wake up conditions are also tested

Extensions

On the extensions with the help of our community, we have been able to enhance them even further.

Mechanix OS

We have been actively building the OS layer in parallel to the hardware, with the new DVT boards we finally are now able to test and optimize for performance and usability.

The Mechanix OS is now based on Fedora 43 with Linux 6.12, we have moved to Fedora for faster releases but will continue to offer Debian packages for all our components and apps.

We are building our own launcher and native apps for Wayland. Here are some of the renders of the Mechanix Launcher's design and for our native apps, more demos on launch date 🚀!

We will be updating our docs and README soon, but if you want to dig into the code, here are the repositories

Mechanix Dart: Dart components for Mecha's native apps in flutter (link)

Like me, if you are perpetually hungry for more details, here are all the updates we have posted on Discord all this time, we just published them on our blog (a bit but better late than never).

We have a great active community at Discord, they have been pivotal in the design of the new Comet the entire last year. Folks from Discord, if you are reading this, thank you for everything 🫡
